on the next debate. both governor romney and president obama are doing a lot of preparation for the face off next week. >>shepard: any concern they will take off the spot line in danville? >>reporter: for all the attention that joe biden will come out swinging and paul ryan, the intellectual voice of the republican party and the face of the g.o.p. for the last couple of years, it is difficult in the format to do that. they could be, the candidates will not upstage the vice presidential candidates and they will be seated together at a table. you look at history of debates with the candidate seated next to one another, it is never as feisty. that works for paul ryan who is a real poll work and it works for joe biden because he has much more seniority and experience in the senate as the chairman of the foreign affairs committee and the vice president, who has been dealing with all kinds of major issues the last 3 1/2 years. >>shepard: thank you, carl cameron. the republican congressman is with us from illinois and the democratic congressman from california is with us, as well. gentleman, nice t

polling that reads like a battle damage assessment from last week's presidential debate, both nationally and in one battleground state it shows a big swing toward mitt romney. take a look. late this afternoon, there was this latest national pew research poll. governor romney now holding a four point lead among likely voters surveyed october 4th through the 7th, after the debate. that's a b swing from mid-september when president obama was ahead by eight. that was this afternoon. just a short time ago, a poll running in the detroit free press shows the president's lead shrinking to just three points in michigan. mr. obama had a ten point lead there last month. mitt romney's running mate, paul ryan, is in michigan tonight addressing a rally at oakland university in the town of rochester just outside detroit. the question tonight, if the mood of voters is changing here, could it also be a sign that it's changing in ohio as well, another key battleground state. the poll in the free press and the pew poll not the only good news for the romney forces. they got a big boost as well in gallup's t

in the way tonight of governor romney's success. >> and jon karl, you covered both these men on capitol hill. they both seemed to bring their own a-games, very different kinds of games and i nope you are also looking at the facts right here. did you see any kind of glaring factual misstatements? >> well, i think there was a lot of back and forth, frankly, it's going to be difficult to untangle. these come from different views on the views of tax cuts, but i've got to tell you something, george. i'm here in what we call spin alley. this is where all the top people for each campaign are going around and giving their take on what the -- what happened in this debate. and it is entirely different than what we saw at the last debate where, if you remember, the romney folks were out in force, talking about what a great debate they had and the obama team came in very briefly and left. in this case, the obama people are out in force, they are thrilled with biden's performance. they like the passion. they are calling him the happy warrior. i just spoke to obama's campaign manager who said this was a c
